who are savage garden?
savage garden is a group made up of two men, Darren Hayes and Daniel Jones. Their combination of soothing voices and amazing music makes them a great band. Besides their fantastic musical ability, they are pretty good to look at, too ^~ One look into Darren's blue eyes, and you're hooked. Then again, Daniel's pretty good too. *heehee* Darren is from Brisbane, Australia, and Daniel is from Essex, England. Savage Garden are a combination of pop, soulful love ballads, jumping dance songs, and even r&b. |
| red edge
in 1993, daniel placed an add for a lead vocalist in his band, red edge. darren replied, and the two of them hit it off immediatly. after a while, however, they both began to tire of performing other peoples music, and decided to make their own band. they began to write their own music, and savage garden was born. |
| to the moon and back, and everything in between |
the name 'savage garden' came from anne rice's vampire novels. soon after making the band, darren took a piece that daniel had written, 'to the moon and back'. it was inspired by a girl named ainsle. it describes the insecurities of a teenage girl. some of their songs were bitter, others were tender and loving. each had a story to it, stories described amazingly through darren's metaphors. in 1996, 'i want you' became the top song in australia, and soon became a hit in canada and europe. it's europop sound was unique and fantastic to hear. |
| chalk and cheese |
savage garden's music is a combination of things. descriptive metaphors, fast pop music, sweet love songs, and even a tiny bit of rock.(break me, shake me) some people suggest that this explains the chemistry between darren and daniel somehow, giving them the nick name 'chalk and cheese'. |
| holding on for the ride |
darren and daniel have had a lot of success, very quickly. they've been pretty much flung into the music world, and have done a great job. and, they still are. darren explained that as the old, self titled album savage garden included a lot of metaphors, the new album affirmation is not. he said, 'i can't really sing it unless i've experienced it or witnessed it. on the first record i was trying to hide behind metaphors and fancy words. on this record it's like a diary.' in other words, affirmation is a direct line to savage garden's heart and mind. 'it seems like only yesterday I was sitting there praying for this. It has literally come from nowhere. If I sat and really thought about this I'd probably go crazy. We are just holding on for the ride, and so far the ride has been amazing.'
